Opening Reflection

Dear Friends,

As we move deeper into November and continue our journey with gratitude, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to stay biblically aligned when we’re speaking with people who see the world differently than we do.

Lately, there’s been a growing movement telling us to avoid people with opposing opinions. I see articles that suggest that in order to “protect our peace” we need to cut people off, shrink our circles, or only engage with those who think and act like we do. These narratives do more harm than good. They fragment and divide us in ways that aren’t healthy or aligned with how God calls us to live.

When I look at Scripture, I see a completely different story. I see Jesus eating with tax collectors, speaking with Samaritans, healing Roman servants, and welcoming people that society said He should reject. He crossed social, cultural, and religious lines with ease.

I see a Savior who never compromised truth, but always led with grace.

And here’s what gratitude has been teaching me lately:

Gratitude makes room for people. Grace keeps us aligned when we don’t agree.

When we choose gratitude for the person in front of us — their story, their humanity, their place in God’s bigger picture — it changes how we speak and how we listen.

Differences don’t have to divide us.
They can sharpen us, stretch us, and sanctify us.
They can teach us patience, compassion, and humility.

And thank God for that.

We don’t grow when we only surround ourselves with people who mirror us.
We grow when we choose grace in the moments that challenge us.

And when we lead by this example that Jesus has set, others will follow.

📖 Scripture to Dwell On

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.”
— Ephesians 4:2–3

Alignment isn’t about winning an argument, it’s about reflecting Christ.

🕊 Living it Out

This week, try practicing relational grace:

  • Pause before reacting. When someone disagrees, ask silently, “Lord, help me listen with love.”

  • Seek understanding, not victory. Ask one thoughtful question instead of preparing your next point.

  • Express gratitude. Thank someone this week for the way they’ve stretched your thinking or broadened your perspective.

Grace isn’t agreement. Grace is Christ-likeness in the moments we’re most tempted to pull away.

🌸 Sacred Practice: A Posture of Peace

Find someone in your life with whom you differ - in personality, views, or approach.
Spend 60 seconds praying for them.

Not for them to change, but for you to carry peace, humility, and gratitude into your interactions.

Often God works on our hearts before He works on the situation.

🙏 Prayer for the Week

Lord,
Teach me to love the way You love — without condition, pride, or fear.
Give me grace to listen, patience to understand, and humility to speak with gentleness.
Help me see the beauty in our differences and the blessing in the people You place in my path. Align my words, my posture, and my heart with You.

Amen.

🌟 Closing Encouragement

You don’t need agreement to have alignment.
You only need a heart that’s willing to reflect Christ.

May this week fill you with gratitude for the people who challenge you, refine you, and help you grow, because grace isn’t just felt in the easy places, it’s revealed in the hard ones.

With love and gratitude,
Tara
