Opening Reflection: When the Season Changes

Dear Friends,

The Christmas season has officially come to a close, and we’ve entered what the Church calls Ordinary Time.

That word can feel a little misleading—because there’s nothing ordinary about this season at all.

Ordinary Time isn’t about doing less spiritually.
It’s about living what we’ve received.

After Advent’s waiting and Christmas’s arrival, Ordinary Time invites us to carry the light of Christ into everyday life—the routines, responsibilities, relationships, and quiet moments that make up most of our days.

This is where faith becomes integrated.
This is where following the light becomes less about wonder and more about practice.

📖 Scripture to Reflect on

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
— Psalm 119:105

Notice it doesn’t say a spotlight.
It says a lamp.

Enough light for the next step.
Enough guidance for today.

🌟 Following the Light—Now That the Decorations Are Down

During Christmas, the light feels obvious.
Candles, music, rituals, sacred moments.

But Ordinary Time asks a deeper question:

Will you still follow the light when life looks… normal?

The wise men followed the star until it disappeared.
After that, they still had to decide how to live differently because of what they had encountered.

And we do too.

Following the light now might look like:

  • Returning to prayer even when it feels quiet

  • Living out kindness when no one notices

  • Choosing patience, honesty, and grace in small moments

  • Staying aligned with God’s voice in ordinary decisions

This season reminds us that God doesn’t only move in holy moments—He moves in faithful ones.

🕊️ Living it out this Week

As we settle into Ordinary Time, try this simple practice:

  • Each morning, ask: “Lord, where are You inviting me to follow Your light today?”

  • Notice where you feel nudged toward peace, integrity, or compassion

  • Take the next faithful step—without needing the whole plan

Consistency matters more than intensity here.

🙏 Prayer this Week

Lord,
As the seasons shift and life settles back into routine,
help me remember that You are still near.
Guide my steps in ordinary moments.
Teach me to follow Your light quietly, faithfully, and with trust—
not just in sacred seasons,
but in everyday life.

Amen.

🌟 Closing Encouragement

Ordinary Time isn’t a pause in the spiritual life.
It’s where faith becomes lived.

May you notice God’s light not only in mountaintop moments,
but in your daily choices, conversations, and commitments.

One step.
One day.
Still following the light.

With calm and intention,
Tara
